Hi Everyone. September was a busy month for TALUG and open source software. Now it's time to get back to business with "regular" TALUG presentations. The October 2007 presentation is titled "Learning the Bash Shell", presented by Andrew Grieser. The presentation will start with Bash basics and progress toward advanced usage. The focus of the presentation is learning to write useful Bash scripts to save time and make life easier. I am a strong believer in having more "show" than "tell" in a presentation, so lots of examples are included to demonstrate concepts. Examples will be posted on the website prior to the presentation, so feel free to bring a laptop and work along with the presentation. This presentation assumes no knowledge of Bash, but at least a basic working knowledge of the command line. Bash noobies should learn a lot about how they can use Bash, and I expect most Bash regulars will learn a thing or two as well. If you are a Bash expert then come on out and help teach the rest of us. Also under discussion will be a TALUG script page, where in the spirit of open source, members can post their own scripts and browse through the scripts of other members. I hope to see you there! ======================================================================= TALUG Meeting Announcement ======================================================================= Topics: Learning the Bash Shell - Bash basics - Configuration - Commands and input / output redirection - Job control - Variables and patterns - Logic statements and loops - Functions - Debugging When: Saturday, October 20, 2007 1:00pm - 4:00pm Where: The University of Toledo, College of Engineering Who: Presented by the Toledo Area Linux Users Group (TALUG) Open to the general public *** Linux distributions on CD will be available FREE of charge. *** *** Be sure to request in advance!
