Hello, my fellow Freedom-loving geeks! This is an announcement for the third-Saturday TALUG meeting for the month of June. Generally we try to cover more advanced topics in our third-Saturday meetings. This month's presentation should fit the bill with Carsten Haese covering several diverse aspects of Programming with Python. [paraphrasing from "Learning Python" by Mark Lutz & David Ascher...] Python is a popular, open source, object-oriented language used for both stand-alone programs and scripting applications in a variety of domains. It is free, portable, powerful, stable, and remarkably easy to use. Python code is designed to be readable and thus maintainable. Its focus on readability, coherence, and quality sets it apart from "kitchen sink"-style languages like Perl. Carsten is a Software Engineer at Unique Systems, Inc. (which generously hosts our website and mailing lists). He is also the maintainer of the Python Informix database module and has a lot of experience using Python and other programming languages. After reading the feedback that we received on the main list, he has selected the following topics for his presentation: - Python basics - String processing and Regular expressions - XML parsing - Database programming - OpenOffice.org scripting - GUI programming (time permitting) Flyers have been posted to the website. If you have access to a nice geeky place to hang it, please print one out and help to publicize for the LUG. Any extra time will be used for a geek-out (mill around, fix stuff, hack, play, talk, whatever). Even if it's a nice, sunny day out, this is one presentation whose educational value should more than outweigh a walk in the park... or mowing the yard! :-) ============================================ TALUG Meeting Announcement ============================================ Topics: Programming with Python - basics - strings, regexps - XML parsing - database programming - OpenOffice.org scripting - GUI programming (time permitting) When: Saturday, June 17th 2:00pm - 5:00pm Where: Stautzenberger College 5355 Southwyck Blvd Toledo, OH 43614 Who: Presented by the Toledo Area Linux Users Group Open to the public *** Linux distributions on CD will *** *** be available FREE of charge! *** *** Be sure to request in advance: *** *** http://talug.org/freecds ***
