Special Meeting Announcement! TALUG is holding another meeting at UT! The last one was a great success. There was a huge turnout and we had almost a whole lab running Ubuntu while people took turns demo-ing stuff at the instructor's station. This meeting we will cover what's new in the latest releases of the top three GNU/Linux distributions (distros). There have been several new releases in the last month and there are some great new features and some gotchas to avoid. We will focus on Fedora Core 5, openSUSE 10.1, and Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Edubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake). We'll also review the new features in the Firefox 2.0 alpha release. Of particular interest to students, we will also discuss Google's "Summer of Code 2006" program. Google will actually pay you to work on an open source project over the summer! We will look at some of the interesting projects that are being sponsored. Finally, we will be screening the first 100% open source movie, Elephants Dream! It's a 10-minute animated short produced entirely using open source software, and all of its materials are freely distributed. We will also have GNU/Linux CDs to take home with you... We look forward to seeing you there! ============================================ TALUG Meeting Announcement ============================================ Topics: What's new in the new distro releases? - Fedora Core 5 - openSUSE 10.1 - Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Edubuntu 6.06 LTS Looking ahead... - Firefox 2.0 alpha - KDE4 - X.org 7 modular releases - revamped SATA support?
