Meeting Notes
We had a nice turnout and overall it went very well. A number of regulars showed up to get special help with particular systems or issues. There were also some new faces who said that they learned a lot and generally enjoyed themselves. We had pizza and pop, since we were meeting during the lunch hours. We gave away CDs, books, and magazines. It was great!
I pimped the new Free Software Magazine using the free copy they sent me. They're looking for more subscribers. The price has already come down once. As I put it, this is not for the mere "open source" enthusiast. It's truly aiming for the "Free as in Freedom" audience. But, if the purist ideals of the free software movement resonate with you, this is your mag.
Thanks go out to the people who showed up to help other people. Josh Locklear spent a while helping Steve with his PC. And a new face, Travis, was very helpful for several people. I sort of bounced around from one station to another, but generally I think everyone who needed help got something out of it... except Steve Attaway... He sort of disappeared after a while and I'm not sure if he got his issues addressed or not.
Big thanks to Kurt Bechstein for bringing a Fedora Core 3 mirror and for helping out with some hardware diagnosing and modem issues.
Stautzenberger supplied a box of power strips, but it turned out that didn't need them. Still, thanks to Stautzenberger and Karen Fitzgerald for supporting our event and providing the room and the electricity.
We used up the entire five hours and getting all of our stuff out of the room kept us 15 minutes over the 5:00pm cutoff, so I'm grateful to Stautzenberger's security for being so understanding.
