Meeting Notes
2:15pm: Introduction and News by Jason Bechtel
2:30pm: Linux and Wireless by Neal Dudley
3:15pm: Pizza arrives
5:00pm: We depart for Mongolian BBQ
It was one of our better meetings. Neal was pretty much set up and ready to start his presentation when I got there, but I made him wait while I did a quick run-down of the latest open source news and talked about the latest developments at Murchison Center.
Firefox is a hit
IBM's 500 patent release
Acrobat Reader 7 for Linux (my comments)
SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional ISO freely available
TheOpenCD 2.0
Free Software Magazine, Issue #1
Murchison Center receives hardware donation: 3 Compaq ProLiant 3000 servers
I gave out some free CDs: 1 copy of Mandrake 10.1, two copies of KNOPPIX 3.7 and a copy of GamesKnoppix 3.7, and two copies of TheOpenCD 2.0. I also gave away a five-disc copy of SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional donated by QoD. Someone also brought a bunch of minted copies of Ubuntu for x86, PowerPC, and AMD64.
I decided that with the earlier meeting time and the current amount of money in the bank that TALUG could afford to spring for pizza. We got two pizzas from East of Chicago Pizza on Heatherdowns. The proprietor, John, was very nice. He says he's been there for eleven years and that they're a chain of only 150 stores in Indiana and Ohio.
Neal's presentation ran until 4:00pm or so. Loren helped by chiming in when needed, but he didn't have a separate presentation. People hung out until 5:00pm when security came around to lock up.
Oh, and we received $60 in memberships/donations. Yay!
